Boot Error My server running Centos Blue Quartz

Greetings, One of our Servers has a problem. My server running Centos Blue Quartz has a bit of a problem booting. P4 3.0g processor with twin 250g hd and 1g of RAM. The boot screen is locked at: md: ...autorun DONE. acpi=no command?

Hi I am trying to install CentOS 4.4 on an hp pavilion PC. It wont install just boots in a circle, so I think I have to pass acpi=no at boot stage. Can anyone give me a detailed explanation how do this? Thanks, -- Filianx

command to ensure other command does last longer than 5 seconds

Hi, I am wondering if there exists a centos command that runs another command and ensures the second command doesnt take more than x seconds? When x is given on the command line. If the second command is not "done" the first command will just kill it and both exit. Does such a method or command exist? I just need to ensure the second command does just continue to run and run and run. Thanks, Jerry

CentOS 4 DNS Server not listening

I installed CentOS 4 on a new box to use as a DNS server. It is a basic server install. I configured named and it is all up and running fine. It just isn't listening on Port 53. It also (obviously) does not respond to DNS requests. Requests from the machine itself are processed just fine, so the service is working. It just can't be used by other machines. Not good for a public DNS server. I did install and turn on SELinux. Maybe that was a mistake? I've not worked with SELinux before. Thanks for any ideas, Michael

OT: general question re processor, l2 and l3 cache etc

Greetings Please forgive the OT question yet I highly value the experience and wisdom on this list I am wondering if anyone here can address the performance difference between having a processor board with say 256KB L2 *and* 2048KB L3 cache *VERSUS* just having the same processor board with just the L2 cache in a centos server environment... Please figure that all other necessary and related componentry is well above needed amounts and high performance specs for a professional server environment. Troubles with starting CentOS beta 5

Hi list I'm new here, but I've been using CentOS for about 2 years. Connecting to a Novell Server

I am trying to connect our centos 4.4 machines to our Novell Netware 5 servers. The goal is to allow the centos 4.4 clients to connect to the server and access shared folders. We are not looking for a single sign-on style solution just the ability to connect. I have tried searching google but I did not find anything really usefull as most of the hits pointed toward SUSE and in our case we have need to stick with a RHEL style distro. If anyone has done this type of setup I would appreciate any information you have. Thank you, Rob

intel se7501wv2 interrupt problem?

I'm having some really odd issues with the networking on this old Intel se7501wv2 The network card onboard is an Intel Corporation 82546EB I'm getting quite a lot of "[Errno 4] Socket Error: timed out" when I attempt to download updates on this machine. Other machines on my network do not appear to be plagued with the same disconnect problems. Not sure what kernel flags I should try, I've tried noht and noapic at the moment. I've also tried setting the network card to half duplex to see if that helps. ethtool -s eth0 duplex half No luck so far. -Mike
