c9s: CPU ISA level lower than required

Hello. I had a CentOS Stream 9 installation in a KVM VM. Today a "dnf upgrade" lead to an unusable system: dnf, rpm commands complain that "glibc cpu does not support x86-64-v2" or "CPU ISA level is lower than required". The updates leading to this state seem to be: python3 3.9.10-1, glibc 2.34-21, rpm 4.16.1.3-10 What happened? Thanks, A.

Migrating / upgrading CentOS Linux 8 to CentOS Stream release 8

Hi, is it still possible to migrating / upgrading CentOS Linux 8 to CentOS Stream release 8 ? Any hint is welcome! Right now I do get errors: dnf install centos-release-stream CentOS Linux 8 - AppStream 111 B/s | 38 B 00:00 Fehler: Failed to download metadata for repo 'appstream': Cannot prepare internal mirrorlist: No URLs in mirrorlist Thanks for any suggestions. /Götz

CentOS 7.9: No authentication after samba update

We are using FreeIPA for Linux accounts and a Windows DC for Windows accounts. Users were able to access their Linux file systems from Windows using their windows user name and password. After upgrading samba from samba-4.10.16-7.el7_9.x86_64 to samba-4.10.16-18.el7_9.x86_64 users cannot authenticate and I get the following error message: 1.2.3.4.log: ../../source3/auth/auth_util.c:1889(check_account) check_account: Failed to convert SID S-1-5-21-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx-1158 to a UID (dom_user[DOMAIN\username]) Winbind is still running My smb.conf: [global] netbios name = HOSTNAME security = ADS workgroup = DOMAIN realm = DOMAIN.FULL.NAME socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=131072 SO_SNDBUF=131072 use sendfile = true dns proxy = no log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log max log size = 50 log level = 1 client signing = required server signing = auto [Tmpdisk] comment = TMP-Disk public = yes path = /tmp browsable = Yes read only = No Nothing else updated or changed. Assitance with perl

I am writing a long bash script under CentOS 7 where perl is used for manipulating some external files. So far I am using perl one-liners to do so but ran into a problem when I need to append text to an external file. Here is a simplified example in the bash script where txt is a bash variable which I built containing a longish text with multiple newlines: txt="a b$'\n'cd ef$'\n'g h$'\n'ij kl" A simplified perl one-liner to append the text in the variable above to some file in the bash script would be: perl -pe 'eof && do{print $_'"${txt}"'; exit}' someexternalfile.txt This works when fine when $txt does /not/ contain any spaces but falls apart when it does. I would like to keep the above structure, ie using bash variables to build text strings and one-liners to do the text manipulation. Hopefully there is a "simple" solution to do this, I have tried many variations and failed miserably... Note that I also want to use a similar pattern to do substitutions in external files, I would thus like to use the same code pattern. Thanks.

OT: DMARC for centos.org

We use Office365 for hosting mail. You may stop reading now, no offense taken. :-) Recently and intermittently, emails from the centos and centos-devel mailing lists are being put in my "Junk E-Mail" folder by Microsoft (not by any client filtering). My insightful email admin has been working with Microsoft to nail down the cause and it is (partly?) due to centos.org not having a DMARC DNS record. I verified this is true with a missing "ANSWER SECTION" if DNS is queried: dig _dmarc.centos.org txt When I pressed for more details about the intermittent filtering, he replied: "Maybe passing SPF or DKIM for some sending domains helps get some of them through? I can’t be totally sure in this evolving Microsoft dynamic situation. But I’m still not through with them. Still asking questions trying to draw out answers..." Microsoft suggested: You can ask an admin in the sending domain to configure their email authentication records: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/office-365-security… My apologies if this is bringing up issues already beaten to death. But if it could be addressed without too much hassle...it might help others as well. Thanks!

repoview alternative

With the move of yum/dnf forward to python3, tools like repoview for building browsable repos do not work anymore. Any ideas of other tools for that?
