IBM x305 slowdown?

Hello: I have an odd problem with an IBM EServer XSeries 305 (aka x305). Sometimes it seems to just sit there, completely unresponsive to the command line (ssh and console), for several seconds. Other times it works normally. top will sometimes die with a floating point error while waiting for it to start. When top does work, it often shows a system load of 0.5, with high interrupt load. At first I though that the tg3 driver was not playing nicely, so I disabled the onboard NICs and installed a 3Com card. This seemed to clear up the problem, but it's now returned two days later. System is running CentOS 4.4, no X, Apache and MySQL. CPU is a P4 1.8GHz 512MB RAM 40GB ATA-100 disk Any suggestions on where to look next are appreciated. --Chris

I can't assure kingstom memories... but 22.0.2 worked fine with this hardware previously for long time (months, and year of uptime with heavy loads)... We'll keep on touch, Jose.

Best backup software for linux

We are running backup softwares for incrementals/differentials and full backups with variouse softwares currently using dirvish scripts + amanda .. what is everyones views on other opensourced backup software? is there anything better or other options we have missed? python-interactive for CentOS/EL 4

Hi all, Could anyone point me in the right direction for a package that provides the 'interactive' module for Python? I need to do some SSH stuff in Python so I grabbed python-paramiko from RPMForge (as always, thanks Dag & co.). Paramiko appears to be dependent on python-crypto but the RPM doesn't require it.. Yes, you can manually backup the db somewhere else, but you can't easily put it on tape. Sure, you could simply dump the contents of each tape to another system with Arkeia's CLI, but in my case, it was 24 hours per AIT3 tape! Since this was in a library, I had 9 tapes to get through. The best backup arrangement I've used is rysnc to another system. I have it worked out in a very nice way to automate offsite storage to my colo. I never recommend Arkeia to anyone... Sorry to be such a stick-in-the-mud about it, but Arkeia let me down in a very severe manner, and I don't wish anyone else to suffer through the same problems I had. HTH Mark

$HOME variable not set from init script

Hi, I'm using Centos 4.4 with: mimedefang.org + spamassassin.org Mimedefang(MD) is a perl program that calls SpamAssassin(SA) perl module. The problem I'm getting is that from update 4.4, SA does not seems to find the $HOME variable only when it is called during system boot. If you later login as root and run: $ service mimedefang restart then SA does indeed find the $HOME variable I checked the /etc/init.d/mimedefang file and the chain of commands seems to be this: /etc/init.d/mimedefang -> daemon function from /etc/init.d/function -> /sbin/runuser SpamAssassin perl module is called from the mimedefang perl program. I'm thinking that /sbin/runuser is the root cause of the problem. My questions are: - does /sbin/runuser set the $HOME at boot time? - should /sbin/runuser be called with the -l option? Mail forwarding on a dynamic IP address.

I have a Cyrus installation with postfix and openXchange. I get the mails from catchall account with procmail and distribute with the mail server. Now I have a new site office where couples of staff members are going to be relocated. Since we have only an ADSL line on site office if there any way I could forward the mails for these staff members to another Mail Server with dynamic IP address? Any input will be really appreciated. ARC SERVE BACKUP.

Recently we have started using Arc serve backup. The Arc server and the tape library are connected to a Windows 2000 server machine and the data files are stored on many Samba file servers. I have Linux Client Agents installed on all Linux Machine. Now the problem is that when Arc Serve backup the file it always backup the full files irrespective of setting for a differential backup. I think the Arc serve is not able to set Archive bit on the file system. But it does for windows. Has any one in the list experienced this type of problem? Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks Rajeev R. Veedu
