Notebook suspend instructions -- Gentoo to Centos

At: http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=06/05/24/1716222 are instructions for implementing suspend mode on a Linux notebook, but the script is for Gentoo and it seems like Centos needs something else. As this puts my system REALLY fast into Suspend, but it never comes back out. Further the temp file: var/tmp/video_state.XXXXXX is empty, so something is not right. Now for my system, HP NC4010, cat /sys/power/state results in: standby mem disk (I think that is the list, definitely 3 items with the 2nd being mem). I ASSuME that this meets what the instructions tell you need to see if your notebook supports acpi suspend. But grep ACPI_SLEEP KERNEL_CONFIG does not seem to have a SLEEP line. Well maybe I was not looking in the right place for the kernel_config. I was looking in /usr/src/ But echo -n mem > /sys/power/state really puts my system into a suspend mode fast. Perhaps part of the problem is with cat /proc/bus/pci/$ID > $TMP_FILE as there are a couple of directories in this directory. It is rather hard to supply more detailed information, as I have to keep rebooting between XP and Linux until I get Thunderbird migrated...

Hi I am using Centos 4.3 to host various web sites that I maintain. I am finding that I am getting more and more, and I have thought of setting up a hosting server to make things quicker for my self. I have setup webmin with virtualmin and it seems to work fine so far. What is everyone else using. I don't want to invest alot of money, but would like some thing that is quick and easy to setup a domain and mysql database, ftp etc. Right now I have to edit httpd, etc etc. Thanks Mace

SATA RAID Cards

Hi, Which SATA RAID cards work natively on Centos 4.x?? I have heard that the only one supported is the 3ware cards but not sure if that requires a driver to be added or if it just works out the box.. Also would like to know of alternatives.. Thanks..

If you use the Bastille Scripts or the iptables to help secure access to webmin, you can defeat some of the exploits. LVM Input/output error

Hi, I recently installed centos for the first time and I like it! Also, I just started working with lvm. The following warnings are genertated whenever I run one of lvm commands on the external usb disk (MyBook by Western Digital). * What could be the source for those messages? * Should I worry about them (writing into the created LV's seems to work)? * If yes, how to fix them? Hi, I need some help about : I just install Centos 4.3 and I would like to install a FirewallBuilder software. 1. Where i can get FirewallBuilder .rpm for Centos 4.3 ? 2. Wine 0:0.9.16 from Extras: update failure?

Tried update on wine (7/9/2009, appx 20:15 EDT). Needed wine-core added to my includepkgs. Did and looked like it would go until this. --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: /usr/bin/xmessage is needed by package wine-core [root@wlmlfs08 etc]# yum provides xmessage Loading "protectbase" plugin Loading "fastestmirror" plugin Searching Packages: <snip> ... X11 tools provides one in /usr/X11R6/bin/ [root@wlmlfs08 etc]# locate xmessage /usr/include/kde/kxmessages.h /usr/X11R6/bin/xmessage /usr/X11R6/man/man1/xmessage.1x.gz No joy in Mudville. Is this a case of me not having a needed package or ?? If not, who do I bugzilla? TIA -- Bill
