RAID 1: missing operating system

Hi all, I'm trying to setup a RAID-1 with Centos4.2 on HP Netserver E60. The raid consists of 2 9,1GB SCSI disks. The partitioning and installation process went smoothly, but after it finished and rebooting, there is an error: Missing operating system. The partition is: / /home swap Bootloader is on device md0. What could be possibly wrong? Help with megaraid_mbox driver

Hi All, I've built a custom CD based on CentOS 4.2. An OOB CentOS 4.2 disk will detect the megaraid (Perc4) card in a Dell 1850/2850, and load properly. My version does not. I have checked, and the original shipping kernel for CentOS contains the same megaraid_mbox driver as the updated kernel that is on my CD. Basically, my CD removed some RPMS, and added others for a custom distro. As far as I can see, the proper kernel files are still present (I'm using an unmodified buildinstall script, and Johnny Hughes' build script for the CD). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to figure out why the new CD says it cannot find an appropriate hard drive to install on? Is there something specific that would be missing like pcitables, etc? Thanks for any advice or suggestions. -Scott

CentOS 4 x86_64 - Nagios plugins compile issue

Hi Trying to compile nagios plugins on an x86_64 box as i have non standard locations for some software and coming accross this issue. Http proxy set in yum.conf is not working for the new yum mirrorlist system

Hi, It seems that the new update system does not consider the proxy option set yum.conf. After installing centos-yumconf-4-4.4.noarch.rpm together with the new yum packages, I was no longer able to use yum. In my case HTTP access is allowed only through a proxy. The proxy URL is configured in yum.conf. If I set the environment variable http_proxy from the shell I start yum, everything works. If I comment out the mirrorlist lines in CentOS-Base.repo yum is working fine without setting http_proxy environment variable (using the proxy defined in yum.conf). Anyone else seeing this or am I doing something wrong? Regards, Radu

Enabling POP3 on CentOS4 / dovecot

I'm bringing up a new CentOS 4 machine on my home network. It's intended to replace a crufty machine that has been acting as my mail gateway. The existing machine does spam and virus filtering, and then I let my kids get their mail off it with POP3 from another machine on the home office LAN (so they're not competing with me for the keyboard when I'm working). Dovecot starts up an IMAP4 server but not a POP3 server. Is there a standard configuration (an RPM I've failed to install? an /etc/sysconfig script? somthing I can "chkconfig on" that I'm just not seeing?) for enabling POP3 with dovecot on RHEL4/CentOS4?

Does your rkhunter do an md5 check?

I rebuilt rkhunter-1.2.8-1.noarch.rpm by using the spec and tgz from the rkhunter site (www.rootkit.nl) (I rebuilt it using his instructions.) However rkhunter does not do an md5 check. The box used to have fedora and each time there were updates it would complain that the some of the md5's don't match. I contacted the author using his contact feature on Wednesday but he hasn't replied. I know Karanbir's repo has 1.1.9 (as does fedora development), but i thought I'd have the latest. The box has # cat /etc/redhat-release CentOS release 4.2 (Final) which is supported in the os.dat file in rkhunter. ssh x11 forwarding problem

I'm running into an a problem with x11 forwarding over ssh I'm trying to run an application (rasmol - molecule viewing program) which when using the the default setup for x11 forwarding causes the following error: X Error of failed request: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) Major opcode of failed request: 132 (MIT-SHM) Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (X_ShmAttach) Serial number of failed request: 230 Current serial number in output stream: 231 It used to be possible to overcome this by setting X11UseLocalhost no in /etc/ssh/sshd_config This worked in CentOS 3 but does not in CentOS 4 (or Fedora 4 for that matter), and I'm guessing it is a XFree86 vs. Xorg issue. Now, when using X11UseLocalhost no no X applications work ssh myserver # echo $DISPLAY myserver.fqdn:10.0 # xdpyinfo xdpyinfo: unable to open display "myserver.fqdn:10.0". I have X11 forwarding set up on the client side by default. on the other hand if I don't use tunneling, but set DISPLAY=myclient: 0 and xhost +myserver on the client then the application works. I prefer to use tunneling if possible. Thoughts about why X11UseLocalhost doesn't work? Tony Schreiner
