unsupported kernel vs. yum

What is supposed to happen to a box running kernel-2.6.9-22.0.1.106.unsupportedsmp now that yum is offering to install the stock 2.6.9-22.0.2.EL version even with the centosplus repo enabled? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

error in centos 4.2

hi i just installed my system then shutit down. after booting it up i can't login to root so i did a linux rescue with the CD and when i tried to type passwd this error message appear? Hello all, again, Still stocked with this NIC binding problem. With Robin's conf both nics work fine in the active-backup config (thanks Robin !) I wanted to go a little bit further & bind both interfaces in an active-active conf. James pointed out the Documentation/networking/bonding.txt. (thanks James!) It states that there is a HA-mode where both NIC'S can work in active-active mode. I've configured the switch to operate in trunk mode for my VLAN and configured my CENTOS box to aggregate the links, but cannot manage to ping my gateway. All interfaces show the same mac addr what is good but, arp -a shows nothing ! Question: Documentation does not say how or if you have to configure de bonding mode for HA in /etc/modprobe.conf. From my point of view it should be mode=6 (balance-alb), but since it does not work I must be wrong! Or should it be left empty ? Any clues ? Could it be the switch ? star --> tape

I just got an error using star to send an archive to tape. I know the tape works--I tested it with gnu tar yesterday. But when trying find /home -mount -depth -type f | star -c list=- -z f=/dev/st0 I got the error: star: can only copy files When I wrote to the tape with tar yesterday, tar -zcvf /dev/st0 /home/matt worked fine. And that star command works when the output destination if a file on disk. What do I need? Thanks!

Vacation message issue

Hi there, I use CentOs with Bluequartz, all is working fine but the vacation message. When vacation message is activated, incoming mail is processed, but the sender get´s this message: ----- Transcript of session follows ----- No home directory for user /home/.sites/143/site2/.users/100/userid/.vacation_msg 554 5.3.0 unknown mailer error 1 Any idea about this? Kernel update and csgfs

My apologies if this is a stupid question, but I'm not familiar with how kernel updates and kernel modules interact. I see that there are some kernel updates available via yum: ============================================================================ = Package Arch Version Repository Size ============================================================================ = Installing: kernel x86_64 2.6.9-22.0.2.EL update 10 M kernel-devel x86_64 2.6.9-22.0.2.EL update 3.5 M kernel-smp x86_64 2.6.9-22.0.2.EL update 9.6 M Updating: kernel-smp-devel x86_64 2.6.9-22.0.2.EL update 3.6 M Will updating to this new kernel cause problems with the cman-kernel, GFS-kernel, or dlm-kernel modules? Will yum warn me about those types of issues? As a more generic question, is it generally safe to let "yum update" install the updates it finds? Thanks, Bowie
