I am continually getting the subscription alert panel popping up??? I leave the selection on the default which is to activate and say OK. It asks me for the root password - I enter it. It keeps coming back... I have network connectivity for the laptop. Any ideas? I saw nothing in /var/log/messages. Thanks, Jerry

Are there any caveats to yum upgrade from 4.1 to 4.2? And can someone tell me if perl-5.8.6 is in 4.2? <<JAV>>

3ware RAID controller scripts

Hello list, I see through the archives that some people here use 3ware RAID controllers with Centos. I have picked up two 9500S-4LP controllers for future servers. I was hoping that if some people could please share their 3ware monitoring scripts with the rest of the group. What I am really hoping to do is have some setup where a cron job runs scripts to test each of the drives connected to the controller to make sure they are not going to break any time soon and then check the health of the array itself. I am used to using smartd for basic SCSI and IDE drives but not connected to this adapter. Any good souls out there want to spread the knowledge? thx, Bob

CentOS mailserver and spam filter setup ideas & preferences

greetings, yes, Mr. Richey it was funny what everyone posted... we all need that from time to time eh? ummm on the work side... i have been trying to search on how to block alternative language spam (spanish or otherwise) and am coming up fairly blank except for Bayesian filtering... i will probably be using the www.qmailrocks.org system again yet i am interested in what others have done and are doing please... i used sendmail for years so any hints from that side would be appreciate too please? plus if someone tell me what i should be putting in my google search for trying to find alternative ways to filter spanish or other language spam please? i am almost drawing a blank! thanks in advance - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net

need kernel 2.6.10 on Centos 4.2 switch to Fedora or compile kernel from source ?

Currently I have 2.6.9-22.0.1.EL but i need 2.6.10 or higher, since: 1. I need ipt_CONNMARK 2. The servers are throwing kernel panicks on 2.6.9 and they worked fine when they were running fedora core 3 with the kernel 2.6.10-1.760 So my question is: Do i switch the servers back to fedora. Or do I compile the kernel from source. Or is there a 3rd way out. Merry christmas and happy holidays :) S

ATRpms repo question...

Hi. I'm fairly new with CentOS but have been using version 4.2 with great satisfaction (Thank you!). I've been using repos such as Dag and Dries successfully to keep my packages up to date. (I've seen many posts which allow me to believe that these repos won't change CentOS compatibility to RHEL4 or to migrate it another distro for that matter!) My question applies to the ATRpms repo (which has el4 rpms). Can I safely use this repo to "yum update" my system? When I added the repo to the yum repos (and to the up2date repos as well), I noticed more than 100 packages to be updated (some seem to be system packages like alsa-lib, autoconf, glib2, etc.) Can I update with this repo and maintain same basic system and functionality? yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins

All, We are currently testing the yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins in the dev.centos.org repository. The two main plugins that this allows that I think would be great for normal users are protectbase and fastestmirror.
