Does anyone have CentOS 4 running on an iMac? Any caveats or useful tips? Where are the ISOs located these days? TIA, Barry

Interested in performance tuning

Hi all, We have a few fairly powerful servers running centos, on some of the busy webservers for example, i think we've been hitting some kernel limits set by the default installation. Limits include max open files reached, max tcp incomming connections, max processors per user... I've been messing about with changing settings in the kernel but I'm pretty new to all this. So... I was wondering what kind of tunning/tweaking you guys do to your servers to make them perform better. Cheers, Marc

Install from a USB CDrom?

OK, this is getting ridiculous. A relatively new HP NC4010 (1 year old). A maybe not the newest Storix USB CD/R-DVD drive. Of course the HP has no problem booting up off the CDrom. But then I get that blasted dialog of where are my install. So I go through the list and find a USB storage driver. It doesn't help. I do have a USB 2.5" drive case that I can put a drive in with the CDs on, but is it worth the effort? Will the install recognize that? Does anyone know were to point me to info on how to get the install to get things like PCMCIA and USB drivers installed initially?

Horde domxml dependency problem

It appears that Horde requires the "domxml" PHP extension, which is apparently not a part of the standard CentOS 4.x PHP 4.x distribution. In fact, "domxml" is no longer available from the sourceforge web site as they prefer the use of the dom libraries in PHP5 instead. http://pecl.php.net/package/domxml Given these facts, how has anyone gotten this working? I would love to replace Squirrelmail with IMP if it can be made to work without lots of customization. CUPS rpm version on centos4

Hey! I have two Centos4.2 servers using the same yum configuration (identical files, edited on one and copied to the other), which both report no updates [besides squid which is afaict still currently borked] via "yum check-update". At the same time package versions don't match (cups is in the base/updates pair of repositories): [1]# rpm -q cups cups-libs cups-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.8 cups-libs-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.8 [2]# rpm -q cups cups-libs cups-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.9 cups-libs-1.1.22-0.rc1.9.9 Any ideas? Install Successes!

The CentOS drive for the HP NC4010 is built. I just needed to use external instead of USB power for my USB CDrom. Go figure... I did this in my hotel room, where they only have wireless. I went down to the 'business center' and used an ethernet drop, but I don't think the registration worked. I didn't know that even for the ehternet drops you have to do that portal thing with your browser. How do I determine if the registration was completed. Now I am making headway, finally, on the Toshiba Portege 3490. I was having TERRIBLE timing problems with the multiport extender. Then I decided to THINK, and went into BIOS, changed the PCMCIA to 16 bit cardbus, and the install is proceeding well. I have my 3COM 574 LAN card in so that the install will do the network installs. And the desk gave me a WET11 so I will have an ethernet drop in the room, but I have to do the browser thing before I can register.... Next I have to get the wireless working on both the HP and Toshiba. The HP has an internal Intel wireless card. For the Toshiba I have LOTS of wireless PCMCIA cards from all sorts of vendors. So getting a bit ahead of myself: How do I proceed with the wireless networking install. Also WPA support with both 802.1X and PSK. Illegitimi non Carborundum
