Load balancing email?

Currently, we have two mail relays for inbound messages, and a third for POP. The inbound messages go thru all the CPU-intensive anti-spam stuff, and then they relay it to the POP server for pickup. Currently, one of these is the "primary", and the other is "secondary", and I'd like them to be considered more or less as equals, since the "primary" system is getting beaten pretty hard. The DNS zone file says something like this: ############################### @isp.com <SNIP> IN MX 100 mx1.isp.com. IN MX 1100 mx2.isp.com. <SNIP ################################ I seem to recall that I make them act as "equals" by simply changing this to ############################### @isp.com <SNIP> IN MX 100 mx1.isp.com. IN MX 100 mx2.isp.com. <SNIP ################################ so that they both get about the same amount of inbound messages. Has anybody here actually done this? Create users with caps A123??

Problem rebuilding glibc for xen

I would like to rebuild glibc specifically with the -mno-tls-direct-seg-refs to allow better performance with Xen. I'm using Centos 4.2 x86_64 on an Athlon 3200+. I'm using the 2.6.9-11.106.unsupported kernel for reiser support. My thought was to download and install the SRPM and then rpmbuild with no changes to make sure it works before adding the above flag. Unfortunately, the rpmbuild hangs during tst-tls9. Has anyone else managed this? As an alternative suggestion is there a chance that a build of glibc with this flag could be added to centosplus? This would be very useful until this change makes it into the main stream. Thanks Daveh

FWIW, We have similar (only 16GB of RAM though), and RHEL 3 U5 (the upstream equiv of CentOS 3.5) is working fine. which process & file taking up disk IO?

I'm having load problems on a server. The bottleneck appears to be disk IO. iostat would show ~100, under %util, during peak usage. i'm running things like clam antivirus, pop, exim, apache, mysql on the server. is there a way to check which process and which file is taking up disk IO? or see what is being written to the disk? i'm very puzzled as the amount of writes is 10 times higher than the reads; and I can't figure out what the writes are for. Device: rrqm/s wrqm/s r/s w/s rsec/s wsec/s rkB/s wkB/s avgrq-sz sda3 2.20 32.94 2.12 17.42 34.54 407.74 17.27 203.87 22.63 avgqu-sz await svctm %util 1.28 65.38 5.10 9.97 Is it normal for the %util to be 9.97% for the above reads/ writes on a U320 drive? or perhaps i have a badly misconfigured server? the drive is 2 x 146GB, RAID 1 using the LSI logic LSI22320-R card. #elvtune /dev/sda /dev/sda elevator ID 1 read_latency: 2048 write_latency: 8192 max_bomb_segments: 6 #cat /proc/sys/vm/bdflush 80 50 0 0 600 10000 80 70 0 Server is running CentOS 3.5; CPU and RAM are very much under utilised. vsftp passive mode / iptables issue

I've been struggling with my firewall and getting vsftp to work in passive mode. It seems that everything on this hosting server works just fine without the eth0 entry in my iptables except for vsftp in passive.
