A little iptables help

Wondering if anyone is willing to give me a little assistance with some firewall rules. I think what I'm looking for is fairly simple, and I've been trying to use webmin's firewall module without success. I have a web server that I'd like to open up port 80 and forward a specific port for a select number of allowed ips. That's it. Everything else is dropped. allow: port 80 allow: forward port 8000 for x.x.x.x to y.y.y.y Anyone willing to assist with the rules? And lastly, how would I apply it in a way that it will always be in affect? If the machine reboots for example. Any help is appreciated. James

virtual interfaces

I have CentOS 4 running on an old (early model) p3 with 64 MB RAM. It is acting as a router and firewall for my LAN. CentOS is doing a really good job with Shorewall + DHCPd - on a 10 Mbps cable modem, I see ~ 9.7 Mbps of throughput even when numerous tcp streams to different LAN hosts are running. I would like to add a virtual interface to one of my LAN interfaces. My LAN interface (/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2) looks like: DEVICE=eth2 BOOTPROTO=static BROADCAST=192.168.10.255 HWADDR=00:60:08:C3:F9:71 IPADDR=192.168.10.1 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.10.0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet would adding the below: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth2:0 DEVICE=eth2:0 BOOTPROTO=static BROADCAST=192.168.20.255 HWADDR=00:60:08:C3:F9:71 IPADDR=192.168.20.1 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.20.0 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet Would this create a virtual interface eth0:0 with the IP address 192.168.20.1? OpenOffice MIME types not working on Centos 4

Hi. I have a problem with OpenOffice MIME types on Centos 4 when using KDE, it seems that konqueror does not recognize the file extensions. Gnome works fine. Any ideas?

NFS Mount - RH7.3 Server - CentOS 4.1 Client

Hi Just upgrading one of my dev servers - I'm replacing a current box that runs 7.3 to one that runs CentOS 4.1 Currently the 7.3 dev box talks to a fileserver also running 7.3 over NFS and that works fine. I'm now trying to get the CentOS 4.1 box to talk NFS to the 7.3 server. When i try and mount the NFS share on the CentOS box i get the following error # mount /mnt/cvs mount to NFS server 'Server Name' failed: server is down. Now i know the server is not down as the 7.3 client is connected fine. Anyone seen this before or know a work around? Nothing in any logs from client or server to give me any hints? thanks

centos 4 installed on P4 won't boot on P3

Hi, I installed centos 4 on a P4, configured it (and it booted fine here) then sent it to the DC to be put in a P3 but it won't boot, displays GRUB and halts. The DC guys tried grub-install in rescue mode but still the same. Any clues? Is there some difference between P3 and P4? thanks tom

Is there some difference between P3 and P4? Happends when the MotherBoard chipset differs to much (usually ide controllers) We had similar problems with P4 with via & intel chipset. You may nedd to do a new install on that p3. Hello all, There is a very nice pice of software called Firewall builder. It comes with a GUI and is very feature rich. http://www.fwbuilder.org/ It's well documented, allowes you do block, redirect, log, Nat, etc.... Very nice for both novice & expirienced users. You build your rules graphicly and deploy them via ssh, create your Firewall RCS and so much more. Hope it helps. Nassri

Is it bad for my web document folder to be user accessible?

PHP and MySQL seem to working on my CentOS installation. I'd like to install phpMyAdmin as well, so I downloaded the necessary files from phpMyAdmin's homepage and copied them to /var/www/html... ... except that's where the process stopped. My regular user account doesn't have permission to write into the /var/www/html folder. Should I just chmod the folder to 777? Is there a reason it's not already user accessible? This is a local machine where I'll be testing web pages of my own design, and not accessible from the web. Or at least I hope not. If I'm running an Apache server just for local files, it's not being seen on the web, is it? Dave
