In a general re-configuration of my box, I deleted and re-installed CentOS. OK, I need the gpg key. When, as suggested, I run rpm --import public.gpg.key I get: error: public.gpg.key: import read failed. So what do I do now? -mj-

HAL and mounting volume

Hi, is there anybody understanding HAL? I use CentOS 4 (RHEL 4) I need set specific mount options for USB flash disk. Disk Druid - control RAID partition layout?

Is it possible to partition a disk with Disk Druid and control the order of the partitions? I want to create my own boot and swap as RAID partitions but Disk Druid won't keep them in the order I want, no matter what I specify first. I've done this before by using fdisk to make the partitions before starting Disk Druid but I thought someone said this was an old bug and should have been fixed. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

Sarah: RHSA tracking tool

Hi, I'm working on a RHSA tracking tool, named Sarah. It allows you to build a local RHSA database of different RHEL releases and then allows you to verify systems for compliance (and lists applicable RHSA and required packages). But before releasing my prototype, I would like to know what requirements people have. How they would be using such a tool and what for reports they need to extract. My main reason for writing such a tool is to automate reports to send out to customers for getting approval for updates during planned maintenance. My aim is to list the risk and information based on information provided by Red Hat. Another use case would be to send out emails either when new RHSAs are released or updates are made to existing RHSAs or sending out daily or weekly mails for systems that are lacking certain security updates. I bet other people have other requirements, so I like to hear about those. PS You may wonder what it offers on top on RHN. In fact it doesn't offer much more than RHN already provides. But in our environment, we don't have RHN access for our systems (some of them are not even connected to the Internet) and security policy does not allow this anyway. Plus a CLI tool that is able to access and process this information allows for some specialized use that RHN may not provide. Bright ideas are welcomed. Here's my final statement. I have never debated that the P4 isn't more capable than old UltraSPARC II processors when something clearly relies on ALU/FPU. Heck, I _still_ deploy refurb/unused dual-P3 850MHz-1.4GHz systems because of this (especially when interconnect is not the bottleneck). But there _are_ cases where a more capable interconnect is what is needed. In those cases, even some older, cheap UltraSPARC II NUMA/UPA platforms are very useful. E.g., we're currently using a 8-way UltraSPARC II as our near-line/ off-line disk/tape backup server, and it's using multiple out-of-band and storage interconnects. Now yes, a 4-way HP DL585 would have been much nicer, and even far more interconnect. But it's clearly better than a 2-way P4 for what we're using it for. -- Bryan J. Smith mailto:b.j.smith@ieee.org

They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for hot-swap -- at least at the PCI[-X] level, if not memory and possibly CPU as well. It sounds like your machine was the hub of a botnet. I would talk to your ISP and ask them to block all access to those IP/port pairs at the edge of their network.
