3ware 9000 install

I'm trying to do a fresh install on a new server that has a 3ware 9000 controller. I followed the instructions on the 3ware manual and used a floppy with the drivers for RH WS3 (Update 2) but it doesn't work. After it asks me to load the disk it reads for a while and then it says it did not find any drivers that pertain to this system. I tried loading the 3w9xxx driver unsuccesfully, it does no recognize the drives. Has anybody succesfully installed Centos-3 on a server with a 3ware 9000 controller? How? I have another machine that does not have a raid controller (and I'm installing Centos right now) that I can use to ciompile the drivers or whatever is needed. Saw on Slashdot there are a few vulnerabilities with PHP. Do these vulnerabilities affect the PHP that's installed? If so, is RedHat going to backport or should I go ahead and grab from source?

Hey, it's a *work*station. I need it to work, all the time, as it's my main gateway into all the other machines. For play, I have a bunch of other machines in my office (including the damn Beowulf cluster that hasn't been moved yet!), a shiny Powerbook, and my keen Debian development box at home. That said, yes, if you want the very, very latest and greatest, then I guess CentOS 3 isn't your first choice, any more than Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS or AS or Debian stable would be. For edges so sharp their users are anemic, we have distros like Debian unstable, Fedora Core development (is it still Rawhide), Mandrake Cooker, and so forth. For workstations, stable OSs with support and the occasional newer package work pretty well. Hello, I'm fairly new to CentOS and to this list. I was wondering if the possibility of creating an announce-only list for CentOS had been discussed before? I'm mostly interested in patch releases and official announcements from the distro maintainers. (great job, BTW! :-) Thanks, Francois

question about Webtraffic monitoring

Does anyone know a good open source and free webmonitoring software which I can use to monitor some websites and build simple uptime/downtine statistics for my customers (conform SLA's) ? Any help/hitns would be very apperciated :) -- Michiel

CentOS & openoffice.org

Hello all, Ive just installed CentOS using the default desktop configuration. It promised to install openoffice.org but it didnt. After a manual install (via yum install openoffice.org) the package plus dependencies install but wont start even though gnome shows all the right links Am I missing something? :-( best wishes, J.
