Does anyone have concern about this? What if Redhat stops giving SRPMS for new releases and updates in public? If you buy a subscription to RHEL AS and they have to give you the SRPMS because of GPL agreement can that person provide those SRPMS to public again because of GPL? They claim they are premium OpenSource company but they are still a company and for them money is bottom line. There is no need to change the package names that redhat have chosen to give to the linux community. (In rhel4 redhat-config -> system-config - and also a lot of work has been done by Fedora removing the word redhat where it is uneccesary - this has flowed through into Rhel4 - indeed even in U4 for 3.3 there are occasions where I have had to remove patches because they had been modified upstream by Fedora project and incorporated by Redhat) . > * Issue: yum > Don't ever auto-modify yum.conf. (We need someone in change > of the mirrors) There is no issue here - all of the mirrors use the same paths within the cAos repo - the mirror is just defined as the url including the path to the cAos repo - that does not cause any problems that I can see and can be used in automated scripts. Someone does need to volunteer to write the script to 'auto-modify yum.conf' to use a local mirror (ok not 'auto' maybe) - it would be done on install and manually thereafter - I am guessing a yum-config-centos rpm or some such containing a bash script that actually produces the first yum.conf on install (using the geolocate stuff) and thereafter would only write a .rpmnew unless run manually. How about the yum.conf in the actual yum rpm ?? what will happen to that ?? In any event to tell the user that the key has bene installed and how to check whether the key has been compromised/is the right key. CentOS newbie just saying hello

Hi folks, Just a quick hello having installed CentOS on my first box - an Acer Altos G310 (P4 2.8GHz, 768MB RAM with 70GB + 300GB storage. The 300GB unit is a SATA disk which I hope to software (hardware!?) mirror - if I'm in for any major fun mirroring a SATA drive do let me know now - I think hardware mirroring is not an option (yet!?) but I haven't checked this out completely. This isn't my first *nix/linux install - I go all the way back to Daisy Dnix, Xenix, SC..er..you know who..unix, via VAX VMS and CP/M on various systems. I have a couple of RH9 boxes that will need updating soon and I'm also running one other Acer G310 server on..er..White Box..(sorry!) so this is kind of a 'keeping my options open' thing! This new G310 will be running Bacula to provide remote backup services for 25 regional sites, and the other G310 is being used as a mail/Web/Intranet (eGroupWare) server for our 250 staff. Thanks to all those who made CentOS what it is - hope I can 'give back' sometime by sharing my experience where relevant. Nigel Kendrick --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
