Unable to update Google products on CentOS 7

Hi, I have Google rpm repository enabled. However, running "yum update" returns https://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/rpm/stable/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTPS Error 404 - Not Found It worked OK just a couple of days ago. Hello, I have some data analysis applications running on CentOS 6.4 and 6.6. Due to these CentOS variants not being supported on the Intel Ice Lake server platform I have to migrate them. The minimum CentOS variant which works on the Ice Lake is 7.4. Please can you give me an idea of the migration complexity of moving the applications from 6.4/6.6 to 7.4 or any variant of 7. Upgrading (?) from legacy boot to UEFI

After three days of effort I have failed to find a way of shifting a server from legacy boot to UEFI boot. I have made my way through the 400+ pages of RH installation manual for EL7, plus their similarly large system administrators manual. Dozens of pages searched via google and yet none of the layouts for the /boot and /boot/efi have worked in my case. System is a Lenovo 3650 M5 with UEFI bios. Due to RH / CentOS design my initial install onto the two 600GB HDD partitioned these using MBR and legacy boot. I have just obtained two SAS SSD drives of 3.8TB and thus MBR is no longer an option. I have successfully migrated all the system and data from the HDD to the SSD, complete with GPT and RAID1 and all works as expected - except the HDD was still needed to boot the system. That's when the fun / agony started. Each system reboot is almost five minutes just to get to the <F1> for system setup option. Thus testing is a very slow process. I am now at the point where I have a "bios boot" partition (1024K type ef02) as the first partition on each GPT partitioned SSD and have grub2-install onto the drives the bios boot junk needed for legacy boot. Thus I can at least legacy boot from one of the SSD and all comes up as expected. (no idea yet why it only works from one of the SSD and not the other). Unfortunately the server is remote and the CentOS7 USB device I left plugged into the machine refuses to boot from UEFI mode. Thus a rescue mode boot has not been possible. I tried a few manual edits to the grub.cfg to deal with linux16 -> linuxefi and initrd16 -> initrdefi but to little avail. Can someone point me to what needs to happen for UEFI boot to work successfully. I am unsure what file I need to point the UEFI bios disk manager setup at, I have tried shim.efi and shimx84-centos.efi The message I get is that linux16 and initrd16 cannot find their files. The change to linuxefi and initrdefi also fail but the system reboot happens before I can see what flashes on screen. Is a USB based UEFI booted rescue mode the only way I can fix this? TIA for your pointers / suggestions.

Annoying shortcut

For at least this year, I'm finding that whether I'm in LibreOffice, or Thunderbird, or Firefox, if I do *something*, and I haven't identified what, backspace will delete the entire word, though I haven't hit ctrl-bkspc. In system settings, it should only be the ctrl-bkspc. Has anyone else seen this behavior? mark

I get "bad shim signature" booting with Secure Boot enabled

Hi, If I enable Secure Boot in my UEFI I get this error (just after selecting Centos from the grub menu) grub-core/kern/efi/sb.c:151: bad shim signature grub-core/loader/i386/efi/linux.c:208: you need to load the kernel first Can someone explain to me why I get this, please? And what can I do to get Centos to boot with Secure Boot? My system: NAME="CentOS Linux" VERSION="8" CentOS Linux release 8.4.2105 Thank you.

edit or write access to /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file for non-root user.

Hi, I am running CentOS Linux release 7.9.2009 (Core). Is there a way to provide write/edit access to a file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file only for non-root users? For example- john is the local Unix user on the server who wants to edit it. Thanks in advance. Please guide. Best Regards,

Git 2.23 or later

The latest version of git for C7 is 1.8.3 and in SCL it's 2.18 although the repository claims 2.9 is also available. I am looking to upgrade to 2.23 since i need the --no-overlay option. Is anyone running this version (or later)? If so, from which repository? Thanks.

Minimising a CentOS installation

Hi folks, After doing a minimal CentOS 8.4 installation, I found the following packages to be useful for a simple server, so I removed them: cronie-anacron (replaced with cronie-noanacron) alsa-firmware ivtv-firmware iwl*-firmware sssd-common (along with all packages that depended on it) What other things do folk usually remove to make their installation smaller?
