I've never worked with Cyrus, so my assumption may be wrong. But if you don't create any folders and just retrieve mail from the inbox it may work out of the box since it won't copy the inbox to your home dir and so on. That is how uw-imap works out-of-the-box.
Dovecot will work with the system inbox (or you can configure it to use maildir format instead), but Cyrus uses its own storage area and needs a special setup and delivery agent.
Les, that doesn't apply to using the Cyrus as a pop server does it? Assume it just reads from the users mail spool ?
