Hi! I have a question to ask: where can I download CentOS 5.3 for Cell Broadband Engine Architecture, and if this is impossible - ppc64 version. I want to install it onto my Sony PS3.
Sincerely, Dmitry Zaletnev

I don't think there is one.

Hi
I think you can use the System Simulator in CentOS-5.2. But you'll need a quite powerful machine.
Or your if have a Cell processor, than I think you are better with Fedora 9.

What about
There's two versions of YDL 6.1 iso: 112008 and 022009 ("NEW"), the first is fulfilled with bugs (rpc bind doesn't work, PS3 forget IP after power down...) and the second with bug fixes is suitable only for newer PS3s. I bought my in Feb 2009 new from shop and now with YDL from Feb 2009 it's "old". There's RHEL 5.3 cbea, so I supposed there may be CentOS 5.3 cbea...

Support of YDL is commercial.

CentOS can't build for every architecture because of lack of [time|money|hardware|volunteers]. If you want it bad enough, you could volunteer to build it and maintain it. I have to warn you, it will be a LOT of work as you will have to hack together the build environment yourself unless there is enough other people with interest to help you.
I don't have a PS3, and if I did, I doubt I could pry my kids off of it long enough to even attempt this.

yeah right Scott, pretend you wouldn't be playing with them :-)
I was on an Xbox last weekend. Got tired of having a 12 year old hand me my rear end every 5 minutes in Call of Duty.

Scott: In 2005, my (late) best friend was visiting us, from Texas. I don't remember what game it was, but my daughter (she is now 8 years old) was beating him, badly. I think it was a very humbling experience for him, but he had a wonderful sense of humor. :-) Lanny

Why not do a cross-compiled env for that then? This is what Gentoo does for their "unusual" platform ports.

Hi
Just one question: do you just want to run linux in a PS3 or do you want to do development with IBM SDK?
If you just want to run Linux, then, there are several options. But if you want development than, F9 is your best option, or, of course, buy RHEL for ppc.

mg.

I want to get from my PS3 180 GFLOPS (x32), I followed Sony recomendation to upgrade BIOS to rev. 2.70, after which F9,F10,openSuse11 don't install. The only systems that I was able to install was YDL 6.1 112008 (full of bugs) and F11. Is there CentOS 5.3 cbea? I tried to install FreeBSD ppc and AIX5.3L without success.

Not yet, no there isnt one. There isnt one upstream either, so its a case of actually coding / patching and making it work.

Depends a lot on what you need - basically, any linux distro that can boot the machine should be ok, just get the SDK fron sony ( as of late last year, the SCEI guys were mostly recommending fedora )
having said that, I have - when time permits - been pushing a small centos-5 set of packages to work with ps3. Not quite there yet.
