Thank you for the information. We are starting a new project on a dedicated development server. We therefore are looking at designing for v.8 from the outset, anticipating that this will be the common production version by the time the project is completed.
I had previously built an early v8 release of Postgresql on CentOS 4, but that machine suffered a catastrophic disk failure and the work was lost. I was hoping, apparently vainly, that in the meantime a yummified rpm package had become available. Ah, well. Back to building the future, one bit at a time.
