Some how I have changed something such that the command line: gconftool-2 -t string --set /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename /usr/share/backgrounds/images/other.jpg
does not change my background any longer.
Has someone come across this before?
How can I change gnome back to ALL default settings?

DISCLAIMER: Not fully tested, might have other side effects. Do it at your own risk. Also, it might not clean exactly what is causing your problem (which could be a Gnome application that does not save its state there).
1. Log off Gnome. 2. rm -rf ~/.gconf* ~/.gnome* 3. Log in Gnome again.
