Hi,
does it true every CentOS mailing list subscriber gets a digests from CentOS-announce mailing list? I get digest from CentOS-announce, but I subscribe announce (i386) for other email address.

Yes. The single announcements are posted to the announce-list only, the digests are posted to the centos list also. There's been a big discussion about that last year(?), IIRC.

In my opinion it is unnecessary. I subscribe both list. Im interested only in i386 announcemnts so far.
Regards.

Let's please *not* through all that again. See http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos/2005-March/003941.html - and the announce-digest should be easy to filter out with any mail client.
Thanks,
Ralph

OK, OK. Sure. I didn't want to make a mess. I'm just asking :)

Yeah, but my vote to do it this way has become wrong. And it was originally set this way nearly two years ago.. after a very lengthy barrage of discussion. In the meantime, much has grown within the CentOS community. There are now at least two more distros for different systems along with 4.X being added... So that gives us 2.X, 3.X and 4.X in the 4? various flavors. This can occasionally be 12 announcements for one update... when 5 hits, 16. If I had my vote to do over, I'd vote for an announce list for each distro and each system. And to rehash yet again another thing... the subject line is so long that I need to expand by mailreader to 1250 or so wide before I can read what the announcement actually regards as in system and CentOS version....
I'd vote for pure announce lists at this point... but, I'm so totally in awe of all the work the CentOS team does which is of such huge benefit to me, that I really hate to even say anything about this... But it is time for me to start doing some filtering. Arghhh!
And I promise to not say anything again, at least until 6 comes out. ;)
Best, John Hinton

You have seen that you can filter topics for the announce mailing list? I only get to see CentOS3 i386/x86_64 and CentOS4 i386/x86_64.

You do know that the announce list has topics, right?
You can pick CentOS 4 i386 and not see the other announce list messages ...
Not sure what the problem is.

My bad... The problem is the end user... ME! I actually didn't even remember signing up for both list.. thought all the announcements were coming into the general list and I had missed the 'topics' area.. or maybe was too early signing on for those to actually exist.
So, you folks have again done a top notch job of things... Sorry about the total waste of bandwidth. Keep up the good work. I found my login info and selected only the announce topics I want to get!

If you are talking about the Daily [CentOS-Announce] Digest that comes to the "CentOS@centos.org" list (this one) you can not pick. That is a daily (on days with updates) mailing that goes to the CentOS list. This daily digest is coming to the general list because we made this decision nearly 2 years ago ... we are not going to change the decision because the basis for the decision is as valid now as it was then. This policy is clearly stated at the following locations:
http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=16
http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
they both say:
"Security updates are currently announced on this list once daily." -------------------------------
If you are talking about the CentOS Announce list, where individual updates are announced, go here:
http://lists.centos.org/mailman/options/centos-announce
then enter your subscribed e-mail address and password ...
Then pick the "topics" that you want announcements for.
Thanks, Johnny Hughes
