The first question to ask is: do you really want this? The default kernel is tuned and tested to work with this release. Expect things to break with other, or customly compiled kernels.

Any which way you can. Don't forget to look at the archives for people who built their own kernel and found it not performing as expected.

I have a notebook hp nx6125 and improvements were implemented starting from the version 2.6.11
