Hi thanks for the reply i am really grateful if you can tell me how to make FreeNX work like charm.
I am really stuck with it, and after reinstalling the server is definitely pissing off my boss.
Please help me thanks.
===========================
Please let me review how my FreeNX was screwed up.
After i fresh install my CentOS 5, I 'yum install freenx' and so if i am not wrong I actually install freenx 0.5.0-12 or something.... but i think ya shd be -12.
Ok... so after i install freenx through yum. I follow what's on http://wiki.centos.org/FreeNX
I --adduser and --passwd etc. Then copy the /etc/nxserver/client_id*.key over to my NX Client on Windows.
Initially all works out. The NX session starts and i can do what i want over this remote session, and i proceed with updating of the critical updates for other apps from yum.
The problem comes after i do this, right after the yum update.
I choose to reboot my server. I reboot the server over the NX remote session. By going System -> Log Off -> Reboot. The NX Client's Window automatically closed (in quite a violent way with error msg). Then the server reboot. After the reboot, I try to reconnect to Server again using NX. But this time it fails with the following message.

I really do not know what's wrong. When i try to connect back locally at my server. The GNOME UI is gone! I am now left with only the console logon menu. This same problem happens everytime, even with CentOS 4.4 recently.
(In the past, ard DEC 2006, I did the exact same thing on my CentOS 4.4 Server, it works without any problem EVEN with the same violent exiting way, I have never have a problem connecting back to the server. But recently after i failed my installation of CentOS 5 and go back to CentOS 4.4, the problem starts to occur like what i have mentioned. And I really did what was written on the wiki, nothing i have done now is different from what i did in the past.)
Please, and sincerely please. Guys, if you all know what's wrong please tell me, how should I solve it? Did I miss out something? like installing of NX Node or NX Client on the server etc?
Well explained or guide is really appreciated. Thanks, really Thank You.
First step, get X working on the local login first. If there is no running X server, FreeNX has nothing to connect to.

Hi
Let's assume i give up trying to get X working. The reason is that even after i typed 'startx' nothing is working, a serious fatal error message was shown.
How about from fresh installed CentOS 5? How should i do it?

What specific error are you seeing? Copy and paste the information. Also tell us something about the hardware and software installed. Be as specific as possible.
Regards, Tim
For 'startx' fatal error, I am not able to describe much, because i have removed the OS from the server.
The server i am using is a DELL PowerEdge 840 - Pentium D 2.8Ghz Pro 915 - 1GB DDR2 ECC - C4 RAID 1 Card - 160GB SATA 2
As mentioned in my first post. Basically I get the error with these few easy steps 1 - Fresh Installed CentOS 5 2 - Use yum to install Yumex first 3 - Use yumex to install FreeNX - and follow the instructions from http://wiki.centos.org/FreeNX
4 - After installation, I go into /usr/bin/nxserver to --adduser root 5 - Then I --passwd root and set a password.
6 - Later I went to /etc/nxserver and copy a copy of client.id_dsa.key to my thumbdrive. 6, A - <<Add>>, I also config my server to static ip 192.168.1.5 before i reboot the server
7 - I reboot the server after that, and leave it aside without local login anymore. 8 - I setup my NXClient and copy the .key before i log into the server with the root account 9 - I get a successful login. 10 - Now I will reboot the server through the remote NX session. 11 - I go to System -> Log Off -> and select Reboot. 12 - The server reboot, and my NX client was cut off with a violent error, saying something like "Connection has been disconnected" etc. 13 - After the reboot, I can no longer log into server with NX anymore. The client will prompt error msg, like what PASTED in the first post. 14 - I then turn back to local login, and here GOES~ the GNOME, i am left with only console login.
This is exactly how to recreate the freenx error for my case.

From your initial post: <quote> NX> 1006 Session status: running NX> 596 Session startup failed. NX> 1004 Error: NX Agent exited with exit status 1. Can't open /var/lib/nxserver/db/running/sessionId{1279B1D659A32AEF7AA88D7C50CA5619}: No such file or directory. mv: cannot stat `/var/lib/nxserver/db/running/sessionId{1279B1D659A32AEF7AA88D7C50CA5619}': No such file or directory NX> 1006 Session status: closed NX> 1001 Bye. bye </quote>
This seems to be indicating that your trying to reconnect to a session that doesn't exist.
But, I think the FreeNX error is misleading you, and you have an X server problem, since you've said that you can no longer run 'startx' from the server locally. If you can't log into GNOME, or run startx, then you have a misconfigured X server. And FreeNX can't work (AFAIK) without X.
I recommend these steps: Install the O/S Update the O/S reboot make sure X still works (Do this without installing or configuring FreeNX)
Once you have a fully updated system, with X running. Then try to install and configure FreeNX.
HTH, Tim
I can try that, but i will need to try it during the weekend, because i am piled up with other work.
Yes: I think forget 1 important requirement for the server that was not listed on my DELL invoice. I think it's a ATI ES1600 GPU.
Please let me clarify further.
This same problem NOW does not occur only on CentOS 5. After multiple CentOS 5 installation failure, I fall back to installing of CentOS 4.4, (the exact version i used in the past, and work perfectly with FreeNX), this time i did the same steps too, but the server also faces the same FreeNX error.
BUT this time when i try to local login. The Server's GNOME is still there, everything work perfectly at local connection, except for the NX session. The error prompted is exactly the same as what shown on CentOS 5 too.
There is 1 thing that i suspect on why FreeNX work in the past and not now. + I think the FreeNX version in the repository has changed

I'm using FreeNX on FC6. $ rpm -qa|grep nx nx-2.1.0-1.fc6 freenx-0.5.0-5.fc6
What version does CentOS 5 have?

I use this every single day when connecting to my main workstation ... it does work fine.
Guys your remark are encouraging, please confirm again... how do you setup you freenx on CentOS 5?
Exactly the same as http://wiki.centos.org/FreeNX ? nothing more, nothing less? And how about YUM updates? updated everything such as the those in CentOSPLUS Repo?
