Dear all,
I'm having trouble installing Centos 6.8, in a VM using VirtualBox, and hoping that someone on this distribution can help.
I'm running VirtualBox Version 5.1.4 r110228 (Qt5.5.1).
I downloaded .iso files for Centos 6.8: - CentOS-6.8-x86_64-bin-DVD1.iso - CentOS-6.8-x86_64-bin-DVD2.iso
I proceeded to set up a new VM, selecting Linux / RedHat 64 bit. I selected the DVD1 iso file above as "IDE Primary Master" and the DVD2 as "IDE Secondary Master".
I then clicked "Start", expecting to be able to install the operating system. Instead of gives me a bunch of output I don't understand, and then it just hangs. I've attached a screen-shot.
I tried to re-download the iso files, from a different mirror. Same issue.
Any ideas? Thank you Emma
It appears the attachment did not go through.
The errors look something like:
... ... [<ffffffff8100969d>] ? __switch_to+0x7d/0x2f7 [<ffffffff8100c28a>] ? child_rip+0x0/0x20 [<ffffffff81c3a7dc>] ? kernel_init+0x0/0x2f7 [<ffffffff8100c280>] ? child_rip+0x0/0x20

I have personally always had the best luck by installing the Live CD, and then customizing the installation from there. This also gives you a quick way to test if the hardware you are installing to is compatible with the version of Centos that you're installing since the Live CD boots and comes up with a working desktop or it does not.
In fact and coincidentally, I just set up a Centos 6.8 image on VirtualBox last night using the Live CD with no issues.
Ok, thanks, I will try that out.
Thank you for the quick response! Emma

Looks like my problem was with the downloads. I would download a file 3 different times and get 3 different checksums :( Now I finally got one that matches the checksums listed on the download site, and it appears to be happily installing now.
Thank you all
Emma

when thats happened to me, its been due to bad RAM in the system.

What is usually done is putting dvd1 in the primary master IDE, then replace dvd1 by dvd2 if required in the same drive.
Cheers
