I have Centos 4 running on my server. During bootup, it hangs on the starting of sendmail. When I use the GUI interface to check what services are running, sendmail is shown to be running. However, if I try a restart, it just hangs.
If I try to send mail with the php sendmail, it times out.
My Linux skills are limited, so I am not sure what steps I should follow to debug the problem.
Any suggestions are welcomed...

You may have a name resolution problem, check /etc/hosts ; /etc/resolv.conf , proper nameserver delegation.
