There used to be a CUI tool to configure printers from a server without X running.
Is there still that tool but renamed to something else?
Or do you have to use VNC and X to remotely configure printers starting with 5.x?

system-config-printer-tui
Could you please direct me to which package to install to get this command?

Not only will I give you the fish, I will also teach you to fish;
run;
yum whatprovides system-config-printer-tui
and the answer will be setuptool and system-config-printer
Then you;
yum install setuptool system-config-printer

I'm going to chime in on this.
on my up-to-date CentOS 5.1 x86_64
yum whatpovides system-config-printer-tui
only lists setuptool
and setuptool only includes /etc/setuptool.d/99system-config-printer-tui
the system-config-printer package does NOT include /usr/sbin/system- config-printer-tui

I admit I ran it on my CentOS 4 system. But system-config-printer might be a dependency. Either way, the fishing is better when you do it yourself anyway!

I finally had a chance to try on my C5 server, and I guess upstream in its infinite wisdom must have removed it. I guess you can always try ; links http://localhost:631

why not just use lpadmin to configure your printers???
CentOS mailing list CentOS@centos.org http://lists.centos.org/mailman/listinfo/centos
That can work to change configuration once a printer is setup.
I am looking for the CUI that is used to setup a printer on the CentOS 5.1 system initially.
The system-config-printer-tui that was mentioned is part of CentOS 4.4 but I cannot locate it for CentOS 5.1.
Thanks for all the advice so far.
