sure you can, $releasever and $basearch are always resolved in yum's config files, for any type of url in the baseurl= field.
so you could have a baseurl=ftp://ftp.somehost.come/centos/$releasever/os/$basearch/

Could you host local Yum repositories either behind, or on, the proxies themselves for each network or subnet?
If you have a bunch of systems all updating from CentOS mirrors you could speed up the whole update process, save bandwidth and potentially side-step your proxy issues with a couple of well placed rsync cron jobs.

I have two machines that run centos (one is my file/ntp server)so a local mirror isn't feasible. It looks like i'll have to go the ftp route..:)
