Running from an ntfs partition isn't something I've tried (or want to try...), but I don't see why that would matter as long as the user running the server program has execute permission. There are some different file formats for the .vmx images and 1.x probably can't handle all of the ones 2.x can use. Do you get some kind of error message or output in the log file?

If you mean vmware 1.x, I have a few of them - or did, the Centos servers may all be updated to 5.4 now.. Starting over, I'd probably run ESXi on the hardware and Centos as one or more of the guests, though.

Agreed. That's exactly what I started to do too. You get a lot better performance out of ESXi than VMware Server on CentOS, or whatever Linux flavor.

I just migrated away from VMWare server to ESXi. Much faster, and the management tools rock!
