Hey All,
Totem has stopped playing .wmv files recently. I don't know exactly when this happened, but I know I've played .wmv files not too very long ago. I've got 372 .wmv files all of which I've played at one time.
When I try to launch any one of the .wmv files from file manager totem pops up but the controls are not functional.
If I start totem from a terminal there is no feedback: [mlapier@mushroom Media]$ totem myfile.wmv
When I try to open a .wmv file using Movie/Open the controls are not functional.
[mlapier@mushroom Media]$ cd /usr/bin/ [mlapier@mushroom bin]$ ls | grep gst- gst-feedback gst-feedback-0.10 gst-inspect gst-inspect-0.10 gst-launch gst-launch-0.10 gst-typefind gst-typefind-0.10 gst-xmlinspect gst-xmlinspect-0.10 gst-xmllaunch gst-xmllaunch-0.10 [mlapier@mushroom bin]$ rpm -qa | grep ^gst gstreamer-ffmpeg-0.10.11-2.el6.i686 gstreamer-plugins-base-0.10.29-1.el6.i686 gstreamer-0.10.29-1.el6.i686 gstreamer-plugins-bad-free-0.10.19-2.el6.i686 gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.23-1.el6.i686 gstreamer-tools-0.10.29-1.el6.i686 gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.18-4.el6.i686 gstreamer-python-0.10.16-1.1.el6.i686

Do you need to see the output of gst-feedback-0.10? It's quite lengthy.
You could try - $ mplayer -vc ffwmv3 sound_video.wmv

Thank you for your help Marcin.
I copied your reply to the bottom. Please do not top post on this list.
1. Yes, mplayer can play some, but not all, .wmv files on my system as long as I don't need to hear any sound.
B. That does not solve my problem with totem/gstreamer refusing to play said files.

You're probably missing some codecs. I'm surprised your media player did not point you in the right direction by telling you there's something missing.

Codecs?

Right you have the gstreamer packages. But let's figure out: a) which codec is being used for the WMVs that play video b) which codec does it want for those not playing anything
