I'm trying to install IMA (http://linux-ima.sourceforge.net/) on CentOS 5.5, but the shipped kernel does not support it. One solution is to install a 2.6.30 kernel, but I don't really like this idea. Does anybody has tried to install it?
Regards, Andreas

You have some options.
Wait for CentOS 6.0 (indeterminate release date) Test with Scientific Linux 6.0 (close enough for testing) Buy a Red Hat Workstation license. Enter the adventures of backporting much more recent kernels.

if you go this way and for testing, instead of rebuilding yourself you can grab recent kernel rpms at elrepo in the kernel-ml repo.

You could rebuild the RHEMRG RT kernel from source RPM, which is a 2.6.33 kernel: ftp://ftp.redhat.com/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/RHEMRG/SRPMS/kernel-rt-2.6.33.7-rt29.55.el5rt.src.rpm

Building and installing the RT kernel is a bit involving. If what is needed is a newer version of kernel, I suggest giving ELRepo's kernel-ml a try:
http://elrepo.org/tiki/kernel-ml
It is the kernel from kernel.org built for EL5. There are 2.6.35 (long term support) and 2.6.38 (latest stable) kernels available at this moment. I should note, however, that they are not for production use.

Yep, but it is an upstream-supported option. I've been working with the CCRMA RT kernel for a long time now in professional low-latency audio, so the RT kernel and I get along ok.

Ok, that's good information, and thanks for pointer, as I wasn't aware ELRepo had such.

I'd double check if said subsystem is not available in RHEL 5.6 kernel and rebuild that until Centos 5.6 is out. Alternatively I had good experience with elrepo's kernel-ml (2.6.35 etc).
Good luck.
