Hi everyone,
I am looking for a dedicated server with CentOS. Any recommendations?
Ideally I would like to use one of the CentOS sponsors, but I think that there are far too many to be able to compare them all by refreshing (maybe there is a page with just a list of links to sponsors but I couldn't find it).
Thanks
Gabriel

A Small Orange, maybe? http://asmallorange.com/services/
Atlanta, Georgia, on Gnax.net.
They're currently out of Virtual Private Servers and of Managed Dedicated Servers, but since they're having such an excellent response time to tickets (a few minutes) even for Shared Hosting (my $100/yr plan), I guess they deserve a try.
Ask on their forums about Dedicated Servers, the manager (Tim Dorr) happens to reply.
Cheers, Béranger

Thanks for the link, but I am not interested in a virtual server. I want a physical one. My friends experience with VPS is that they are a lot less responsive than dedicate ones.

If I recall correctly, there were some complains about them on WebHostingTalk a few months ago. I might be wrong there, but it is worth checking.
Actually, before closing any hosting deal, it is always good practive to check for references on WebHostingTalk.

Managed or unmanaged ? Control Panel or not ? If yes, which one (Plesk, CPanel, etc ?) What kind of network conectivity are you looking for ? What is your budget ?

Unmanaged, no control panel, decent connection (it's going to run a webapp on it, not too graphic heavy but needs decent latency).
Hardware wise, 512MB of RAM, 40GB of disk and a Celeron should be enough.
Don't have any particular budget in mind, just as far as it is not excessive.
Thanks for the reply :)

Sounds a lot like our situation.
Check out LiquidWeb, www.liquidweb.com. I've been very, very happy with the service they have provided for the past two years. When I did a search a couple of years back, they were one of only two providers for which I could find NO negative comments. Lots of positives. And, they were cheaper than the other one.
Take care,
Kurt Hansen khansen@charityweb.net

Sorry to intervene in your discussion, but I wouldn't trust a company with such a flashy, unprofessional website!

It seems you've never heard of ASO :) http://asmallorange.com/
You might even *try* (30 days money back, and they do it!) a shared virtual one, you might be impressed. Mine is very usually responsive, GNAX.net has a good connectivity with America, and they fix any inconvenience *very* quickly.
CPanel, ssh, etc. CentOS on dual-Opteron (they also have dual-Xeon Dell PowerEdge 1850).
You can test the responsiveness of my blog: beranger.org in what happens to be quite bad conditions, as while I'm writing this they have:
load average: 2.80, 2.44, 2.41 Cpu(s): 44.0% us, 2.1% sy, 0.9% ni, 43.0% id, 8.8% wa, 0.1% hi, 1.0% si

maybe they would like to contribute something to the CentOS project ? like a dedicated server for the mirror.centos.org network ? We *do* still need more machines !

This would be great, but I dunno. They're rather small... You should ask their manager/owner, Tim Dorr: http://www.timdorr.com/
I don't know his e-mail, but you can try help AT asmallorange.com.

That really isn't true for hosting companies. The worst companies around have very "professional" websites.
In any case, my previous recomendation stands: go to webhostingtalk.com and look around. If not satisfied with what you find, ask for reviews.

GNax recently moved to Atlanta NAP, which is where another hosting company Wiresix is also located. Wiresix is the company I have been using for the last year, and I didn't have a single issue with them. Quite on the contrary, at least 2 of my servers came with extra features for no extra charge.
Not to mention the fact that Ryan will do everything possible to keep customers 100% satisfied.
