The Highlights:
-CentOS 4.4 & CUPS -HPLIP Installed -Running as server, no GUI. -Can print from command-line no problem. -Printing from Windows XP via Samba puts job in the correct queue, job is processed but not parsed or rendered. The job is removed from the queue, but never prints. (I've RTFM and google'd it, no avail...) Help??
When printing from commandline (eg. cat file | lpr), this is the result I got. The print job came out just fine.

Are you using a raw queue for Samba clients and do those clients have the hp drivers installed for the queue?
raw queue: Yes When trying to add the printers, Windows complained that no valid drivers were found.
I've tried using generic drivers from Microsoft, but it all ends with the same results.
Just to be sure I have it configured right, the raw queue is specified in smb.conf, correct?
Thanks,

You have to install the Windows drivers for your printer in all clients if you are going to use raw queue.

Yes...or you can just pick the raw queue from the list...Centos Samba shares all printers by default IIRC.
This could very well be an issue with the HP driver suite, since they force you to use their installer, rather than providing specific drivers. The installer doesn't play nice unless the printer is hooked up locally.
Do you know of any different driver sets that could be used, or how I can feed directly into CUPS from the Windows machine, as I have all the CUPS drivers for Windows.
Thanks,
Les

I use the CUPS drivers for Windows and samba. If these are the drivers you are using, you don't want to use the raw queue. I also must comment out
cups options = raw
in smb.conf

This could very well be an issue with the HP driver suite, since they force you to use their installer, rather than providing specific drivers. The installer doesn't play nice unless the printer is hooked up locally.
Ugh. Maybe we should try the Samba printer driver hack. Do you have an inf file for your printer?
Do you know of any different driver sets that could be used, or how I can feed directly into CUPS from the Windows machine, as I have all the CUPS drivers for Windows.
CUPS drivers for Windows?? Regarding feeding directly from CUPS in Windows, yeah, there is a way. Use the cups queue and install one of those Apple Postscript drivers for the cups queue. That way, the Windows boxes will generate postscript which cups can swallow and intepret.
The cups + Windows Apple postscript driver should be the simplest.
The printer driver wizard method with an inf file is a bit more involved, see the link below:

There is an inf file, but I think using the PostScript feeding directly to CUPS is the best idea, as the printer will be used by Windows and Linux machines.
Should I disable printer-sharing in Samba, or is that a moot point?
All the help is appreciated!!!!
Les

Hmm, I think I am a bit lost. Is the printer still connected to the Centos box? If so, you need to share via Samba. If the printer is now on a Windows host then yes, you can disable printer sharing since there is not anything to share any more. At the least it will remove any possible confusion.
Printer is still connected to CentOS box, still shared by Samba. I'll try the PostScript on Windows.
Thanks for the help,
Les

I tried your suggestion, and Akemi (sorry if I spelled that wrong).
It still doesn't want to print :S
Is there any other information/configs that might help figure this out?
Thanks,
Les

Set debug level logging cups please and post the logs.
Please also post /etc/printcap, list of files in /etc/cups/ppd and relevant section in samba configuration.
