I am trying to install git-1.7.1 from the rpmforge repository on my CentOS-5.5 CI box. I am getting the following error:
Resolving Dependencies --> Running transaction check ---> Package git.x86_64 0:1.7.1-1.el5.rf set to be updated --> Processing Dependency: perl-Git = 1.7.1-1.el5.rf for package: git --> Processing Dependency: perl(SVN::Core) for package: git --> Processing Dependency: perl(packed-refs) for package: git --> Processing Dependency: perl(Error) for package: git --> Processing Dependency: perl(Git) for package: git --> Running transaction check ---> Package git.x86_64 0:1.7.1-1.el5.rf set to be updated --> Processing Dependency: perl(packed-refs) for package: git ---> Package perl-Error.noarch 0:0.17016-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package perl-Git.x86_64 0:1.7.1-1.el5.rf set to be updated ---> Package subversion-perl.x86_64 0:1.4.2-4.el5_3.1 set to be updated --> Finished Dependency Resolution git-1.7.1-1.el5.rf.x86_64 from rpmforge has depsolving problems --> Missing Dependency: perl(packed-refs) is needed by package git-1.7.1-1.el5.rf.x86_64 (rpmforge) Error: Missing Dependency: perl(packed-refs) is needed by package git-1.7.1-1.el5.rf.x86_64 (rpmforge) You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem You could try running: package-cleanup --problems package-cleanup --dupes rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.
I do not do Perl and I have no ide how to translate perl(packed-refs) into a package anme. Nor does 'yum provides */*packed-refs*' supply an answer. What other package do I need installed to get git-1.7.1 to install?

known problem, see rpmforge list. A fix is on its way. For now, I guess you should either install the previous version (1.5.2.1-1), or wait a bit until the fixed package is built.
