Greetings-
Is there any updated news on the CentOS6 front? As per qaweb [1], today should be the day of QA signoff and syncing to internal mirrors. Are things still on track?

Admin of the QA site replied to my question following:
Ljubomir Q: What is the status of QA process for C6? Will QA Sign-off happen today?
Jeff Sheltren A: There's a good chance. Please continue to watch the QAweb site for updated information.
-Jeff
And the last status from yesterday is here: http://qaweb.dev.centos.org/qa/node/94

Last word on the QA website is that final ISO's are in the making (or they have already been made by now) and should be available for download on all official mirrors in about 2 days.
Of course, this time estimate is my guess and you should wait for official estimate from someone from dev team.

Sorry my mistake. They will be available for download in 4-5 days, sync to external mirrors should be finished in 2 days.

Seems to happen every Sunday :)

Not much of a difference this time, still good for download in 4~5 days. This time it looks more like adjusting based on known time needed to push to external servers.
Although I'm quite curious, how is the push done? Given the requirements of 25Mbits for donated servers, it would take less than an hour to push through even 10GB worth of DVD + CDs. It seems quite odd that it takes 2~3 days just to push to internal mirrors.

not all links work at 25mbit/sec - that is really only local loop's - most machines are 100mbps within the country but transit rates can vary. Also, the tree size is 28G at this point - and will grow a bit more by the time we release.
also, to give you an idea of what the 'external' mirror network is like : http://www.karan.org/geomirror/ ; keep in mind that : - this is from a few months back - does not include all mirrors ( its about 60 short of the total )
Also, if anyone can help light up some of the not-covered countries, please do.

oic, I've been using x64 exclusively to the point I overlooked the entire half of the x32 tree in my pondering. What is the minimum bandwidth required to host a mirror if not 25Mbps?

ideally 100mbps+ would be good, and a reasonable machine behind it so it can handle a bit of load. As much memory as is possible ( helps get rpms into the cache )

Ouch, 25Mbps might had been a possible for me to contribute to the project but 100Mbps is really hefty. I'll keep that in mind if we ever get that much spare bandwidth to our private mirror and take it public.

Once the "new version fewer" passes, current mirrors should be enough for upgrades and net installs so you do not have to feel bad about not being able to help.
Best possible move right now will be releasing .torrent as soon as possible. This will distribute load on large number of home users. So you can wait for .torrent, download it and set an upload limit to those 25Mbps. this will help immensely. I only have ~5Mbps of upload, so I will be reserving 4Mbps for CentOS 6 .torrents for a next month.

I've got 2.5Mbps outbound that sees very little outgoing traffic normally, and 250GB of monthly transfer here at home and only use about up to 40GB or so per month. Whenever a .torrent file is available I'm going to leave utorrent running wide open with the DVD ISOs up to a max of about 200GB for this month.
It'll be interesting to see how the seed:peer ratios hold out over time.

what part of the world are you in ? we would be quite happy to take on mirrors in places that have low coverage, even if the overall b/w is limited to 25mbps

Any public mirrors have this yet?

Depending on your (or Karanbir's, rather) definition of "shortly".... the internal mirrors could be syncing right now.
From the twitter: "Starting the CentOS-6.0 release process with internal sync starting shortly ( http://t.co/ErbQq4s )" http://twitter.com/#!/CentOS/status/87365231914921984

"could be" != "is"

Until the qaweb site is updated saying that the internal sync is actually occurring it is probably safe to assume that it's not started yet.
Anything else is just pure conjecture.

I do concede the point with regards to your logic, John. And I, of course, feel the same hesitation over the use of "weasel words". However, that does nothing to deflate my eager enthusiasm.
