we have CENTOS 5.3 on DELL server. This server is inside firewall and it continue get error messages on /var/log/messages:
error getting update info: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: base. Please verify its path and try again
anyone know how to turn off it?

Is Yum working correctly on this server ? Those are probably from yum-updatesd.

Why are you wanting to turn it off instead of fixing the underlying issue? Would seem more appropriate to allow the update server's through the firewall as opposed to stopping yum and leaving the server outdated.

Depends upon your point of view. I like to know what my servers are doing and to have the opportunity to test that updates will not break anything that we rely upon first.
