Hi,
Im new in this list and I have recently started a project to migrate all our servers from RHEL to Centos. My question is if anyone have any tips/tricks regarding online migration from RHEL to Centos, especially between ver. 5? I have read most stuff I have found thru Google and the Centos wiki and most migrations have worked fine except the RHEL 5 - Centos 5 migration. Hit a few bumps and lost the rpm db and such... Any tips/pointers/tricks/experiences are welcome.
Yes, I know a clean reinstall is the best thing to do.
Cheers

All that you should need to do is install centos-release, remove redhat-release rpms and just yum update the machine, which should bring in all packages changed by CentOS ( since they will have a slightly higher E-V-R ).
End of Migration.
Disclaimer: i've not tested this since there are no rhel machines near me, anywhere.

Hell Karanbir!
Thanks for your reply and yes, that was all that was needed! Only one additional small thing is to remove the "rhnplugin" from yum (not necessary but gives an error msg)
I tried to figure this out by looking at RHEL 3/4 -> Centos3/4 guides and testing it out on a test machine and that was NOT a working solution :)
Thanks again and now I have alot of machines to change :) Cheers

try not top-posting please.
also, now that you have done this - would you like to write a wiki page for everyone else who comes along with the same issue ? we have a moderately active wiki at http://wiki.centos.org/ and there is a howto contribute page that lists the process.
