Hi All,
Anyone here going to try running CentOS 4 on a PS3? Is there even a PPC version of CentOS 4 available?
Regards,
Ranbir

Apparently, you just need to live in Japan and be homeless and someone will pay you to buy one. ;)
I'd be curious to see what benchmarks looked like on this.
Cheers,

Just a direct update on the centos-4/ppc front... we've got some traction on that side again and we're moving through to make sure that there is a release that we get out by the first week of December.
once there, we should stay in sync with the rest of the distro.

If an old G4 Mac is sufficient, I'd be willing to be a guinea pig for the PPC arch. I have some gathering dust in our video editing dept.

Our 32bit version of ppc should run on a Mac G4

That's great. Like, really, really great.

I'm (hopefully) picking one up on Friday. When that PPC version of CentOS is ready to be tested on a PS3, give me a shout and I'll happily help out.

Ranbir

Now this should probably go over to the developer list (there is one, right?), but I'll post it here since I'm sure others are interested.
I know that for a distro to boot on a PS3, something has to be modified.
From what I recall, it's quite minor. Sony actually supplies the
instructions on how to do it, so any PPC Linux distro can be installed and run on a PS3. I think they give an example using Fedora Core 5. Here's the developer site with the documentation:
