Oh, no - the question was whether /dev/videoX existed at all. Since you say that it does, the next question is whether there are messages in /var/log/messages, dmesg, or perhaps camera even has its own logfile?

Hi Mark,

The /dev/video0 exists and the cheese application (used for testing) seams to find it. But the menu for choosing the camera is greyed as if it was unusable.

The message I get in /var/log/messages is: kernel: uvcvideo: Failed to query (GET_DEF) UVC control 6 on unit 2: -110 (exp. 2). each time I launch the cheese application.
