How can I get the hard disk information like, its serial number, description
...through a command that like the kind of information we get on Solaris thro' 'iostat -En'.

smartctl -i $DEVICE
where $DEVICE is the disk drive.
For IDE disks you can also use: hdparm -i $DEVICE
The output from smartclt is way better looking.
