This is not specifically a CentOS question but it relates to a problem I am having on CentOS-3. I though someone here might have come across something similar before.
I use the JPackage provided java-1.4.2-sun-compat but it has recently switched arch from noarch to i586. Yum understandably refuses to upgrade this package.
Should I bother with yum or just upgrade it manually?

the java packagings which rely on this include IBM's -- they (IBM) ship a wide array of x86 arch variants,a nd I am surprised that Jpackage had it as noarch in the first place.
I would manually do the upgrade
