I was wondering, rhel5/centos5 is 686, but when I went to http://dag.wieers.com , the packages for rhel5 are either 386 or x86_64. Why?
Should I recompile them for 686 or is it a waste of time or it makes no difference or...

i386 is nomenclature carried over for legacy reasons, and is in reality i686 code. The i386 packages will work just fine on rhel5/centos5.
