php package is the base PHP RPM. Others (php-something) are additional modules. If Cacti is not working, you are probably missing some modules. php-ldap is PHP LDAP module, and it is part of CentOS 4.4.
Check Cacti documentation on which modules are required, than do yum list 'php*' to see what modules you have installed, and which are available on the installation server.

If you are going to use one of Dag's packages, why not add the yum conf for his repo and let it find the dependencies for you? http://dag.wieers.com/home-made/apt/FAQ.php#B

Hi
i installed until the point of mysql configuration starts where it says mysqladmin create cacti and the test above tells me that we are creating an user but we are not creating an user, the command create cacti creats an database name named cacti and not an user, i am getting wrong here and i am trying to figure it out ...
also in some other pages about mysql they tell me that localhost have to be changed to the localhost nanme of the computer and in this document for getting started with cacti on centOs is mentions nothing about changing localhost to the hostname of my computer ...
this makes me confused ...
