I've got 2 internet connections but unfortunately not the same - 6mbit and 1 mbit. My default is 6mbit and I want to create backup connection (1mbit). How can do it? Has anybody done it? My perfect scenario is that my network uses 1mbit if (only) 6mbit fails and it switches automatically.

There is a big difference if you are trying to failover for incoming traffic with a range of IP addresses or if you are just looking to have outgoing traffic just continue working in case of a failure of your primary link.
If you are trying to provide outgoing Internet connectivity only, http://lartc.org/lartc.html should provide you instructions for what you are trying to accomplish.

You are still flouting the rules of posting on the mailing list even after I sent you a polite offlist message not to top-post. Read the following link on how to post on the CentOS list.

Apparently, someone didn't get what they wanted for Christmas, is grumpy and feels like being the list police. Lighten up man...

Do me a favour while I turn the Christmas Turkey. Ask this geezer called Mark A. Lewis to stop top-posting.

The CentOS nursery is closed over Christmas. :-)

Top-posting this just to get your panties in an even bigger knot.
Come on dude, go have a beer or something and stop being a prick.

Guys, you're on a two way street. Having said that, it happens you're both right and you're both wrong.
Happy New Year.

I post on several mailing lists and have never seen any jackass become abusive because he does not want to follow the guidelines of that mailing list. Have you seen any yourself?

It does make one wonder why some people either don't make an effort to conform to guidelines -or- do make an effort to not conform. Of all the annoying practices we see, though, top posting seems fairly innocuous -if- irrelevant content is snipped without wrecking attributions.
But then, I ask you how many bottom-posted messages do we see in which it's impossible to determine who said what? To me, that's important because unlike airport TSA people who are forbidden to "profile", I'm gonna mentally weigh answers based on who said it.
Just one man's opinion...

It also does not hurt at least to try to be polite about it. Rude, or even flat (i.e., those open to interpretation as rude), comments don't help. Trust me on this one - I know (perhaps you've seen this from me?), and I've been posting on mailing lists, discussion groups, newsgroups and such since 1979 or so. I've flamed and been flamed, been rude and been polite. Polite works.
Now, can we put this OT tangent to bed?
Thanks.

PS (yeah, yeah, I know) especially to Mr. Vandaman: I've noticed that a lot of your postings are fairly concise, or one might say clipped. I gather that this is how you post, and this is not a criticism, just an observation: most people, especially us annoying colonists, perceive clipped as being rude, even if it is not intended to be. An extra word or two to soften the blow can often help.

An extra word or two? I actually did more than that and sent a polite offlist message to about a "dozen newbies" with full details and a link to the mailing list guidelines. There was even a regular poster who had top-posted and when he queried offlist I sent him a link to what he had done and there was no reply. So if someone is now top-posting after all that, even you may agree it is over the top.

Just between thee and me (and the list), anyone who tops posts on this list is asking for no help, especially long time members who know better. One would think it was really hard to scroll down a page.

To make it quite clear: both, top *and* bottom posting are annoying. And bottom posting is certainly even more annoying than top posting. The only way to make a readable reply is to use what they call "interleaved" on http://www.centos.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=16
Kai
the part that really clear is that posting about posting is a something not mentionable anywhere at anytime.
how about a solution people?
like have a cup of caffeine and .....
or maybe the list daddies can be baby sitters OFF LIST and everyone else can ....

People, we're meant to be helping out others here. Can we stop arguing? Vandaman was only trying to make the list more accessible. If you choose to top post it interferes with the order in which people read things. I agree with this view completely.
On another note, if you have OT comments to make on things to a specific person, it is probably best to email it directly to them than do it over the lists. So far 3 posts in this topic have been about the problem. That's out of 18, meaning around 80% of this topic is just OT rants. And in my opinion, most of those are not constructive. Wouldn't you be annoyed if you had an urgent question and then people ignored you, choosing to argue instead?
P.S.: If you'd like to shout at me about this, you know my email address. Don't clog up the list anymore than you have to.
I use load balancing on my firewall, it had a spare interface and our main office is out in the sticks, so I put our second slower connection on the spare interface and set up load balancing so technically its always in use; but our main, higher speed line is less stable (because we couldn't get any further from our exchange and still get serviced) so if it drops the load balancing goes 100% to the other line?
Something like that maybe, its not the greatest but it works for now until we can get a better service ;)
