Hi All,
as a CCNA student and wishing to eventualy do CCSP, I wanted to learn all about what hackers use/do to infiltrate networks, and was introduced to dsniff at a Linux meeting, TLUG, in Tokyo, but, am having problems installing it. Please see below.
checking for Berkeley DB with 1.85 compatibility... /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4 configure: error: db_185.h or libdb.a not found in /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4 or not configured with --enable-compat185 [root@localhost mailto:root@localhost dsniff-2.3]# ./configure --enable-compat185 --with-db=/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4
I have installed the latest BDB, and have, as you can see, added the correct arguments for ./configure. Anyone know a workaround for this?
I also tried via yum, but, nothing.

First thing I'd do is search the mailing list for "repositories" and look into adding additional ones such as Dag's AT's and the dev repo on centos.org.

Hi All,
I tried to install the following,
[root@localhost dsniff]# rpm -Uvh dsniff-2.3-0.rhel3.dag.i386.rpm error: Failed dependencies: libpcap.so.0.6.2 is needed by dsniff-2.3-0.rhel3.dag.i386
as I couldn't find a rhel4 version. Guess it doesn't work with rhel4, no? Cheers.

CentOS 4 includes libpcap 0.8.3. You might be able to rebuild the dsniff src.rpm against that, but no, trying to install the rhel3 binary on rhel4 will not work in this case.

I have buildlogs available for the daredevils that want to fix builds that failed. Sadly I'm not that good in fixing C code as I would have liked, but the buildlogs might help others to contribute.
If you're looking for packages (or the logfile), you can use google for a searchstring like:
dsniff*el4.i386.rpm dsniff*el4.i386.log.gz
Here's the location:
http://dag.wieers.com/packages/dsniff/_buildlogs/dsniff-2.4-0.b1.2.el4.rf.i3...
Feedback and fixes are warmly welcomed :)
Kind regards, -- dag wieers, dag@wieers.com, http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [all I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power]
