After investigating, it appears that these files belong to tetex and rpm -V inconsistencies appear only after I also install tetex-latex.

The strange thing about it is that I can't find the definition of "C" in the rpm manual page. Moreover, the entire field where C is printed on CentOS is not printed on RHEL4. I tried looking at the differences in the source RPMs for RHEL 4 and CentOS 4 but couldn't find anything. Any thoughts on the rpm issue?

Your question is labelled incorrectly and can cause confusion to those who use searches against the mailing list. rpmbuild is a command and i cannot see any rpm you have built with an issue.

What you are talking about is "rpm verify" against which you can use your favorite search engine or look at rpm.org :-
