im having a problem with apt in centos 4.5 i get this error.

I HIGHLY recommend that you instead use yum because of the fastestmirror and priorities plugins. We provide apt in extras, however there is functionality in yum that I think you would like if you learned how to use it.

OK, I just upgraded the apt in the extras Master repository for CentOS-4 to:
apt-0.5.15lorg3.2-1.el4.centos
synaptic is also upgraded to:
synaptic-0.57.2-3.el4.centos
Those changes should be rolling out now and available soon on remote mirrors (you should be able to get the RPMS manually on http://mirror.centos.org/ now).
