Hey Guys,
We have a central server which runs centos, most of the client machines run on windows. Does anybody know of a solution whereby we can manage antivirus for all the clients from the centos server? I know there are management consoles for managing antivirus on windows but we dont want to run a windows server..
Anybody have any ideas? Or are we just screwed and need to have a windows server for this?
Thanks, Wayne

I am not promoting this anti-virus. But i have same setup where in all our WS are running on Windows but our centralized anti-virus machine is a Centos 4 box with F-secure(for linux). Have a look at it.. it does centralized management of Anti-virus.

Panda also used to just use a network share for putting out updates, so it would work with a centos server. Though that was several years ago that I used then, so I'm not sure that is the case anymore.

It also looks like F-Prot (f-prot.com) supports updates to client PCs though a file share, so should work with centos also.

Wayne,
CentOS 5 comes packaged with clamav. I have used clamav on a Fedora Core 4 and Fedora Core 5 units for quite some time and very pleased. I am getting ready to upgrade both of those servers with CentOS 5 and plan to use clamav on both.

I installed it from RPMForge, but I'm getting SELinux issues with it.

I'm very new to SELinux so I'm going to have to do some research to figure out how to apply that solution.

Humm, I did post some SELinux rules for clamd a few days ago do that exactly same list. Have you tried them ?

Ok, please disregard my last e-mail ehehehe You are actually pointing to my rules :)
Save those rules to clamd.te, then:
# checkmodule -M -m clamd.te -o clamd.mod # semodule_package -o clamd.pp -m clamd.mod # semodule -i clamd.pp

The 3rd command fails:

Wow. Thats really odd. I just did that on a new server (as opposed to the one where I created those rules) and it worked flawlessly.
Are you sure you've got no errors during any of the first 2 commands ?
Since we are talking about SELinux, this _might_ be relevant: I usually do this inside /root/selinux

I'm very interested to learn how to integrate this into the SPEC file.

You might give AVG Anti-virus (www.grisoft.com) a look. They make several server products for Windows and Linux. Their pricing is usually based on number of clients. I've used their M$ email server product and it worked well. No experience using it with Linux though.

Sorry to say that but AVG is the worst antivirus I know ... 3 virus alerts, 3 times AVG see nothing... It's better to look at Kaspersky, F-Secure , Antivir or Clamav ..
