I just tried to perform a yum upgrade on my CentOS 5 machine and it failed on a pm-utils >= 0.99.3-6 is needed by package hal error. I rsync my repos every night. This is the first time it's happened

Thanks. Having a look at http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/updates/i386/RPMS/ there is indeed no pm-utils matching that version.

Replying to my own post here. I'm an idiot. The ISO files I have are for 5.0 and the updates I have are for 5.1 I don't have pm-utils because it's part of 5.1 base.

No, you are not an idiot. If you look through the forum thread I referred to, you'd find that "smart" people went though the same thing. And I know, for a fact, they are smart. :-)

No that's the thing, I did read it. I just kept thinking, "no I'm using 5.0", but DUH! when 5.1 was released the rsync for /5 started to point to 5.1 and hence didn't work. I'm an idiot more because even after I read it I didn't put together the correlation. I can happily laugh about it now though. DOH! ;D

if you are rsync'ing againt the /5/ target, your [base] repo should have updated as well, was that not the case ?

I don't rsync everything, I use the ISOs for base and just rsync addons, extras, updates, etc as well as some 3rd party repositories. I'm still waiting on one 3rd party repository maintainer to get back to me on syncing their site. Hint, hint, nudge, nudge.

Sometimes, it's "All's well that ends well"; sometimes, "All's well that ends" is enough.
