We have some new blades, and last night we got a bunch of messages about CPU temp exceeding threshold, throttling CPU. Running ipmitool sel shows nothing. ipmitool sdr list shows me current values, nothing special.
First question: why would high temps not show up in the SEL? Second: among the things I see list are <...> 10-VR P1 | 56 degrees C | ok 11-VR P2 | 46 degrees C | ok <...> Does anyone know what the numbers mean, if anything, and what VR means?

VR probably means Voltage Regulator, which is the on-board low voltage supplies for the CPU core (which run around 1.5V these days, +/- depending on what chip etc etc).

I use `ipmitool sel list` to view IPMI log messages.
