I know I can compile it however I prefer to use the package manager and having an updated version.

Run 'rpm -qi lighttpd' to see where you got the lighttpd package from. Once you know where it came from, you can file the appropriate bug report with the right crew. I'm guessing EPEL or rpmforge.
