Hello:
I have a Supermicro SuperServer 5015P-TR. It has a Pentium D and is running CentOS x86_64.
Can this machine use 8GB RAM?
I think it should because it is running a 64 bit OS, but I am concerned because it is fundamentally 32 bit hardware.
Anyone have any experience in this area?
Thanks, Neil

Neil,
I maintain a Dell PowerEdge 850 which has a Pentium D, exactly 8 GB of RAM, and runs CentOS x86_64. It should work fine as long as your motherboard supports that much RAM.
Hope that helps.

You need to know if the mainboard support the 8GB. I have a Asus mainboard which has 8GB of RAM and a Pentium D 3.2Ghz model 920.

googling a bit I found that it supports 8GB, so CentOS x64bit should run nicely http://www.supermicro.com/products/system/1U/5015/SYS-5015P-TR.cfm

Just to come in a bit late on this one...
I have a couple of Supermicro 5015M-MR units which are similar to yours... maybe even using the exact same motherboard. I run them with Pentium D's and 8GB of RAM. IIRC these boxen support ECC or Non-ECC, just not mixed. Mine are running non-ECC and they work GREAT!

Tim:
The 5015P-TR uses the Super PDSMP-i motherboard. The 5015M-MR uses the Super PDSMi motherboard.
They are slightly different but they both use the Intel E7230 (Mukilteo) Smithfield chipset.
That gives me a LOT of confidence that 8 GB of RAM will work on my machine.
Thanks for the info!
