Hi Everyone, Centos 3.3 is available for general use - you can find it at:
http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/3.3/
This should be a complete rebuild of all the nice things Red Hat has included in the srpms of their Enterprise Linux 3 update 3.
This is a rebuild of all the changed packages from update 3 overlaid onto 3.1. It includes a rebuilt anaconda and new boot kernels for the installer. The release includes X86_64 and i386 architecture support.
Known Problems: openoffice does not function without openoffice.org-i18n installed. I believe this is NOT unique to centos but consistent with RHEL3U3 functionality
comps.rpm included on the isos does not have the correct hdlists in place for cd support from redhat-config-packages. This should be fixed before long. However, it was not practical to re-roll the isos for this. An updated comps package will be released which fixes this problem. In addition, a few errors in packages listed in the comps.xml file will be corrected.
yum: yum 2.0.8 did not know about the ia32e or nocona processors so it cannot install those kernels on x86_64 systems using those chips. A future version of yum will correct this.
Updating from 3.1: An update from 3.1 should be seamless. Simply, running 'yum update' should get all the latest packages from your local mirror repository. Keep in mind this is a lot of updates from 3.1 to 3.3. You may need to free up some disk space in order to complete this update. This will update your centos-release to 3.3. At this point your yum.conf should be pointing to the 3.3 path by using the $releasever variable.
If you look at your /etc/yum.conf file and it is explicitly using the 3.1 path you should change it to use the $releasever variable. for example:
WRONG: baseurl=http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/3.1/
RIGHT: baseurl=http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/$releasever/
WRONG: baseurl=http://mirror.caosity.org/centos-3/3.3/
If you'd like to reinstall your system from scratch or install a new system you will need to download all new disk images as the ones for 3.1 will not install from the 3.3 installation directories.
If you have additional questions or bugs please file them in caos bugzilla: https://bugzilla.caosity.org
or post them to this mailing list (centos@caosity.org)
Thanks -sv

Seth,
Updating from 3.1: An update from 3.1 should be seamless.
Somehow yum update does not find any updates. I am using the following base url for updates:
baseurl=http://archive.cs.uu.nl/mirror/Linux/cAos/centos-3/$releasever/updates/$base...
Thanks,
Taco

Same problems here on a few boxes I tried this on.

Well, I pushed them only 10 minutes ago.
I'd bet the mirrors haven't gotten them yet. give it a few hours or so.

I've just seen that there is a mirror.caosity.org and a mirrors.caosity.org, the first one have 2 dns ip adresses ( 69.93.142.19 and 69.57.175.50 ), the second is 69.56.240.122.
Contents are different between these two names.
Is it because of new files propagation ?

I honestly don't know. Can one of the people responsible for mirror and naming stuff chime in on this? Greg? Lance?

yes - mirrors has never been publically announced nor used.
mirror.caosity.org is the only one to use
I will now delete mirrors.
